Did that alert wake you up this morning?

Did that alert wake you up this morning?

Good. It was supposed to.

That wall-rattling IMMINENT THREAT ALERT that blasted through your phone at full volume — even if it was on silent — was the National Weather Service telling you this is not a normal storm warning. They reserve that for situations where lives are at immediate risk.

Right now, Bowie and Cass Counties are under a Flash Flood Warning until 9:30 AM CDT. Radar is showing more than 12 inches of rain have fallen over parts of our area since yesterday afternoon — the worst of it around Maud and Douglassville. That's not a typo. Twelve inches.

Moving water is deceptive. Six inches can knock you off your feet. Two feet sweeps your vehicle away. You cannot judge depth in the dark on a flooded road.

Don't travel unless you absolutely have to.

Stay off low water crossings, creeks, and underpasses.

Turn Around. Don't Drown.
Drop your road conditions in the comments — help your neighbors know what's passable. 🐾
