TEXARKANA, Ark. — A 39-year-old man is facing a felony charge of internet stalking of a child in Miller County.
Robert Galo Hurtado was arrested June 5, and charges were filed July 29, according to court documents.
A criminal information signed by Deputy Prosecuting Attorney David Cotten alleges Hurtado used an internet service to solicit or entice a child age 15 or younger in an effort to arrange a meeting for sexual intercourse, conduct or activity.
Hurtado has not been convicted. The allegations come from a charging document, and he is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
He is being held at the Miller County Detention Center on $500,000 bail, according to jail records, and is represented by the Miller County Public Defender's Office.
Internet stalking of a child is a Class B felony in Arkansas, punishable by five to 20 years in the Arkansas Department of Corrections, a fine of up to $15,000, or both.
Under Arkansas Code 5-27-306, the offense applies to a person 21 or older who knowingly uses a computer or internet service to seduce, solicit, lure or entice a child 15 or younger — or a person the accused believes to be 15 or younger — to arrange a meeting for sexual activity. The court documents described in reporting on the case do not specify which circumstance is alleged here.
