Realistic-Looking Toy Guns Lead to Two Texarkana Arrests

TEXARKANA, Texas — Two people were arrested Saturday night after Texarkana, Texas police received multiple 911 calls reporting a man and woman pointing guns at people near West 10th and Bowie streets.

According to police, the "guns" turned out to be a pair of BB guns — an AK-47-style rifle and a 1911-style pistol — that officers said looked identical to real firearms.

Monica Yates, 29, and Jeremiah Glass, 46, were each arrested on a charge of possession of dangerous toys. Police say Glass also gave officers a fake name, which quickly fell apart. Investigators say he had a probation-violation warrant and was subject to an active protective order involving Yates, resulting in two additional charges.

Police used the incident to deliver a blunt reminder: "If you point something that looks exactly like a real gun at someone, don't be surprised when they react like it's a real gun."

Both remain subject to the pending charges. As with any arrest, each is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
