TASD staff launch the new year at "Mission Launch" convocation

TEXARKANA, Ark. — Teachers and staff with the Texarkana Arkansas School District gathered Friday morning for a back-to-school convocation ahead of the new school year, held under the theme "Mission Launch."

District leaders said the event is a time to celebrate the work done by teachers and staff.

Superintendent Dr. Lloyd Jackson laid out three goals for the year: a standard of excellence, a shared identity across every campus and department, and results that amount to nothing less than the best for students. Jackson framed the second of those around the district's mascot, saying staff are "all Razorbacks, no matter what campus or department" they work in.

The United Way of Greater Texarkana used the occasion to present the district with a $5,000 check for the TASD care closet, which helps supply students with basic necessities.

TASD serves roughly 4,400 students across nine campuses in Texarkana, Arkansas. The district was founded in 1911 and operates as Miller County school district No. 7.

Classes begin Wednesday, Aug. 12. Texarkana Independent School District on the Texas side begins the same day.

Families who still need supplies can contact their campus. TASD held its Community Back to School Bash on July 25 at Razorback Stadium, where school supplies and backpacks were distributed while supplies lasted.
