TEXARKANA, Texas — A 36-year-old man is charged with felony bribery after allegedly offering money to a Texarkana Texas Police officer who had just arrested him.
Frederick Lavor Wyrick is accused of forcing his way Sunday into an apartment where a woman he had previously dated was living with her child, according to a probable cause affidavit filed Friday.
Officers determined Wyrick would be arrested for misdemeanor criminal trespass. The affidavit says Officer Robert Wright was walking him to a patrol car when Wyrick asked to be released and offered to pay as much as $2,500 if the officer would take the money and let him go.
The affidavit says Wyrick showed signs of intoxication at the time of his arrest, and describes him as alert, walking on his own and speaking loudly on the phone with his mother and with officers.
Wyrick has not been convicted. The allegations come from a charging document, and he is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
Bribery is a second-degree felony in Texas. If convicted, Wyrick faces two to 20 years in prison.
He is represented by the Bowie County Public Defender's Office. The case has been assigned to 5th District Judge Bill Miller.
