TEXARKANA, Texas — KTYT News is working to confirm reports of a law enforcement response near Texas High School on Summerhill Road Thursday afternoon.
According to initial reports, a caller told 911 they were armed with a handgun after being threatened by a group of people in a parking lot in the 4000 block of Summerhill Road, across from the campus. Reports from the scene indicate entrances to the Texas High campus were secured and that a number of officers responded.
KTYT has not independently confirmed those reports. As of this writing, Texarkana Independent School District, the Texarkana ISD Police Department and the Texarkana Texas Police Department have not issued public statements, and no official cause for the response has been released. KTYT has contacted all three.
It is important to note what has and has not been reported. The 911 call, as described, involved a person stating they were armed after being threatened. It was not a report of shots fired, and it was not a report of a threat directed at the school. Securing a nearby campus is a standard precaution while officers investigate that kind of call.
Texarkana ISD is not in regular session. The 2026-27 school year has not begun. However, summer activities — including band and athletics — have been meeting on the Texas High campus, and students may have been present.
Parents are asked not to drive to the campus. Vehicle traffic on Summerhill Road can interfere with an active law enforcement response. Families should watch for direct communication from Texarkana ISD and from their student's activity or athletic director.
