BOIL WATER NOTICE ISSUED FOR PART OF SOUTHWEST TEXARKANA

TEXARKANA, Texas — Texarkana Water Utilities has issued a boil water notice for customers in southwest Texarkana following a loss of water pressure.

TWU described the affected area as south of West 15th Street and west of South State Line Avenue, and released a map showing the affected zone. The shaded area on the TWU map extends north of West 15th Street toward West 7th Street and Westlawn Drive. Customers who are anywhere inside the shaded area, or who are unsure whether they are, should follow the notice.

The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality requires the City of Texarkana, Texas public water system, ID 0190004, to notify affected customers to boil water before consumption after the system experienced no water or low water pressure.

Affected customers should bring water to a vigorous rolling boil, boil it for two minutes, and let it cool before use. This applies to water used for:

— Drinking
— Making ice
— Cooking and food preparation
— Brushing teeth
— Washing hands and faces
— Any other human consumption

Bottled water or another suitable source may be used instead of boiling.

Children, seniors and people with weakened immune systems are particularly vulnerable to harmful bacteria and should follow the notice carefully.

The notice was issued July 31 and remains in effect until laboratory testing confirms the water is safe and TWU formally rescinds it. TWU says it will notify customers when that happens.

Questions can be directed to Corey Atkinson or Chris Cagle at Texarkana Water Utilities by calling 903-798-3850. If that number cannot be reached, customers may call 903-277-0805 or 903-417-4336 at any time.

Customers can also sign up for TWU text alerts and e-notifications at twu.txkusa.org to receive outage and boil water updates directly.

TWU is asking residents in the affected area to pass the notice along to anyone who may not have received it directly, including people in apartments, nursing homes, schools and businesses.
