TEXARKANA, Ark. — Ward 5 Director Danny Jewell announced last week that he will seek reelection to the Texarkana, Arkansas Board of Directors.
Jewell was elected to the Ward 5 seat in 2022, winning a three-way race with 512 votes to Donna Burnett's 438 and Phillip L. Jones' 154. He had previously served four years on the board during the 1990s.
He is the owner and agent of Farmers Union Insurance Agency and holds a business administration degree from Southern Arkansas University.
In August 2025, Jewell was appointed to the city's Advertising and Promotion Commission, filling the seat left by Ward 3 Director Steven Hollibush, who resigned. The A&P Commission's funding process drew sustained criticism at a May board meeting, when residents and event organizers told directors they had been shut out of 2026 funding. Jewell, who described himself as new to the commission at that meeting, said he had understood earlier in the year that no funds would be available for 2026 because the budget had been earmarked for a bond project.
On the board, Jewell has listed his priorities as transparency, improving the city's appearance to visitors and prospective residents, attracting new business, and ensuring the city's emergency warning system works properly. He has identified airport operations and the cleaning of city streets and ditches as areas of particular interest.
The Arkansas general election is scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2026. Because Texarkana, Arkansas operates under a city manager form of government, state law provides that a plurality of votes cast — not a majority — is enough to win, meaning a race with three or more candidates would not go to a runoff.
